In actually, cyclists ride on sidewalks all over Union Square, despite there being bike lanes. Sidewalk cycling puts pedestrians at risk. They often speed down the sidewalks, day and night, where there are often blind corners. Seniors and persons with disabilities use these sidewalks.
The law prohibiting this practice was put in place for a good reason, not out of whimsy.
Sidewalk cycling is a dangerous practice, and prohibited in most American cities. Yet many
cyclists choose to violate the prohibition.
