the right turn lane is almost always blocked on orange st. as people leave their cars to enter the housing authority. this blocks traffic turning onto grove, and creates a major hazard. is there a better solution?
I agree that this location is a major problem. This is a no parking zone for a reason. Each time a parking regulation like this one goes unforced, there is the potential for a serious injury or fatality.
The city's transportation department has identified this street as a major bicycle route as well. To create a more livable street for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, perhaps the city should consider adding on-street parking on Orange Street, removing the "passing" (aka speeding) lane and reducing lane widths.
This morning (2010-07-13) a stationary delivery truck was parked here during rush hour and contributed to a huge backlog of frustrated drivers and traffic jam at the Trumbull/Orange Street exit ramp intersection.
The no standing/no parking should be aggresively enforced during rush hour.
There is obviously a need for parking here, can't the city carve out a "pullover" set of spaces into the existing concrete plaza.
How about Elm Street by Yale, sometimes down to one lane in the am btween 8-10 am or Elm Street in front of Webster bank's ATM or Orange street anywhere or Collegge St oh and Chapels amess too. Church st in front of city hall noticed this was acked 11 months ago and what has been done ????
